- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Inborn errors of amino acid metabolism
- Hyperglycaemia requiring more than 6 units of insulin per hour
- Intracranial or intraspinal haemorrhage
- Acidosis
- Severe hepatic insufficiency
- Severe renal insufficiency without haemofiltration or dialysis
- Children under 2 years of age
- Unstable circulation with vital threat (e.g. collapse, shock, fluid overload, pulmonary oedema)
- Acute myocardial infarction or stroke
- Unstable metabolic condition (e.g. coma of unknown origin, hypoxia, decompensated diabetes)
