- Inborn errors of amino acid metabolism
- Severe hepatic insufficiency
- Severe renal insufficiency without haemofiltration or dialysis
- Hyperkalaemia or hypernatraemia
- Metabolic instability (e.g. severe catabolism, unstable diabetes, coma of unknown origin)
- Severe insulin-resistant hyperglycaemia
- Hypersensitivity to any component
- Unstable circulation with vital threat (e.g. collapse, shock)
- Inadequate cellular oxygen supply (hypoxia)
- Metabolic acidosis
- Hyperhydration
- Acute pulmonary oedema
- Decompensated cardiac insufficiency
- Children under 2 years of age
